Which do you choose?
Audi V-8
Lexus ls400
Merc E400
Infinity m45
Cadillac STS
BMW 740
Obviously the STS takes it for me, followed by 740 and then the Audi.

The Lexus or the BMW are the only possible answers

Since that’s not a 500E, give me the keys to the 7.
![]() 11/19/2017 at 20:18 |

Right it’s a 400E. Added the list. Post got kinja’d a bit.

Obviously the 740 over the Lexus tho.

I was more insinuating that I would have taken the Benz if it had been a 500E, since it’s not I’d rather have the BMW.

500SEL, because Motorweek had to field a 400E to give the others a fair chance.

Is that the million mile lexus?
![]() 11/19/2017 at 20:26 |

LS400. By far the best engine out of the lot.

The Turbo R. Proper luxury.

I really like the 740 - it’s a beautiful car, but on any given day I would buy the Lexus and get some upgraded shocks and tires.
![]() 11/19/2017 at 20:28 |

560SEL* Mercedes never officially imported the 500SEL here.
![]() 11/19/2017 at 20:30 |

Depends. How many times per month can you accept the car being in the shop?
![]() 11/19/2017 at 20:32 |

In 1993, I would pick the BMW or Caddy.
Now? Just the BMW. The rest are gross.

Ls400, E400, or 740

COME AT ME BRO
![]() 11/19/2017 at 20:45 |

I am referring to the early W140 which was launched as a 500SE and SEL before they changed naming schemes in mid-’93
![]() 11/19/2017 at 20:47 |

Lotus Carlton would slay them all.
![]() 11/19/2017 at 20:47 |

Ah, I saw the W124 and my brain immediately though W126.
![]() 11/19/2017 at 20:50 |

If I recall, the LS400 trounced the W126 in reviews when it came out...
![]() 11/19/2017 at 20:54 |

Easily the 740i. Wouldn’t take an il, but definitely an i. I wish I’d kept this one, despite all the work it needed.
![]() 11/19/2017 at 20:55 |

The Lexus, of course

Welcome to the year 1993. The 126 went out of production two years ago.

All of them?
![]() 11/19/2017 at 21:13 |

BMW 740
![]() 11/19/2017 at 21:15 |

This one.
![]() 11/19/2017 at 21:17 |

The STS is my favorite, but the LS400 will last much longer.
![]() 11/19/2017 at 21:19 |

Q45 :).
I always thought the q45t with active suspension was the s***
![]() 11/19/2017 at 21:59 |

The Infiniti is a Q45, not an M.
And I would have to buy the STS because I think 1993 was the Northstar debut.
![]() 11/19/2017 at 22:06 |

Lets not give them more credit than is due.
The Lexus had a more modern drivetrain and feel than a Mercedes whose design dated from a decade before it’s own. Color me shocked...
![]() 11/19/2017 at 22:18 |
|
The Infiniti.
![]() 11/19/2017 at 22:19 |

The 7 for looking pretty in your (mechanic’s) garage, the Lexus for driving.
![]() 11/19/2017 at 22:26 |

Any but the Lexus or the Cadillac. I like the LS and STS once they get more in the ‘99-01 range, but these are too early for me.
![]() 11/19/2017 at 23:49 |
|
Well, I’m all for the STS and the Audi V8. And then I’m sad that they are the front wheel drive (-based, in the Audi’s case) vehicles. So, the BMW and Infiniti take runner-up status. Imagine my surprise that the STS was actually the quickest to 60 back then.

Yes. It also beat the W126 in 1989. And cost less than half as much as a 560 SEL. Also, I recall saying when it came out. That being said, I’d take a 560 over a UCF10 any day. However, the W140 was a complete dog.
![]() 11/20/2017 at 03:26 |
|
Shhh. You can’t deny that the LS400 was a revelation in that segment when it was launched. As I said above though, I’d take a W126 over a UCF10 LS in a heartbeat. Also, bad news, if everything goes to plan the S600 goes to its new home tomorrow... I finally fixed all the little shit that was wrong with it earlier today, then went for a nice long drive. I’m not ashamed to admit that I spent a good 30 minutes crying about selling it. I loved that car man. Did you see that they axed the S600 for the 2018 model year ?
![]() 11/20/2017 at 11:50 |
|
The LS400 was a revelation, yes. But it’s always been a little half-and-half for me. Initially, I dont know what segment it was competing in. It wasn’t an S-Class, but it was bigger than an E-Class.
I did not see they’re dropping the S600 sedan. I thought that I saw we were going to get an S650 Mercbach convertible though?
![]() 11/20/2017 at 12:50 |
|
Yep, though I think they’re making something like 300 total so idk. In other news, I still have my S600. The person that told me I could get 11-12k wasn’t there so some schmuck offered me $3500... I was out of there so quick lol.
![]() 11/20/2017 at 15:16 |
|
No kidding? LOL.
The curse of the S600. Nobody wants it until some poor bastard does. If they run, drive, and hold themselves up on the ABC they’re worth $10,000 retail, trade should be $7-8,000. I asked my used car manager at work what he would give me for mine, and he said $4,500.
Maybe it’s a sign? Enjoy it while it’s all working.
![]() 11/20/2017 at 15:36 |

I’ll keep driving it until it sells, but I’m not selling for less than $12,000. The kicker was that he quoted a check engine light as a reason for that low price. I know for a fact that the car has never had a CEL during the time I’ve had it. Maybe he was confused with the SRS light ?
![]() 11/20/2017 at 20:47 |
|
Lucky. I’m going on 18 months with the CEL on.
Computer is loaded with old misfires at the moment.

correct answer was not on your list

Bah, decadent capitalists.
I’ll take the aircooled rear-engine one.
